Dante

About Me

Hi, my name is Dante and I’m 15 years old.  I will be a sophomore next year.  A couple of hobbies of mine are sports(especially basketball) and playing video games.

My KCSTI Experience

What I like so far from KCSTI is meeting Johnny Rowlands from KMBC-9 News.  Bessie Coleman and Jamail Larkins were pretty interesting people to listen to.  Bessie and Jamail taught me how to be determined to get passed obstacles.  I feel comfortable knowing that all new bus drivers will test out the bus simulator before driving on the streets.  Ironwoods was a great experience for me because I have a little fear of heights.  I felt pretty special when I got to see the 2010 Chevy MalibuWhat I like so far from KCSTI is meeting Johnny Rowlands from KMBC-9 News. I felt pretty special when I got to see the 2010 Chevy Malibu and the phone that Garmin showed us.  The concrete building was pretty competitive and informative. Wheelchair basketball was the highlight of this four week program. Our instructors in the wheelchair basketball had a good sense of humor. "Tee"

About Me

Hello. My name is Tara. I prefer being called Tee. I have lots of different talents. My main two are dancing and singing. I dance at Kansas City Metropolitan Dance Theatre (KCMDT). I also belong to a dance cru at my school called Soon2B DanceCru. I dance because that’s a way that I relieve stress. I feel freedom when I dance. I am not really an athletic girl. The only sport I would actually play is softball and volleyball. I love getting to know new people. I have 4 sisters and 2 brothers. I love Lil. Wayne.

My KCSTI Experience

Honestly, at the beginning of this camp, I didn’t think that I would enjoy myself. Transportation just kind of didn’t interest me. Although, I am soooo glad that my momma got me to sign up. Being here has taught me a lot of new things and it’s only the end of the second week.

We have been on a lot of different trips. My favorite trip so thus has been General Motors. I really enjoyed this trip because I actually got to see how they make cars from scratch. We took a tour there and it was GREAT.

I have met a lot of different friends here.

Everyday would write in our journals about our thoughts and things that we learned that day. It was a good way to see what we knew so far. Also we had breakfast and snack every day. It would be a light breakfast thought. We had danish, granola bars, donuts, honey buns, and Sunny D to chose from every day for breakfast. For snack, we had Gatorade and like chips.

Career Choice

My career choice right now would be a Pediatric RN. I have always said that I wanted to be some kind of nurse. About two years ago, I finally figured out what kind of nurse I wanted to be. I decided that I only wanted to work with kids and newborn babies. My preference would be to work in the nursery when the babies are first born.

I have a backup plan that I just became aware of attending this camp. Mr. Derrick Willis has been talking to me about engineering since day one. Almost all the trips we’ve gone to have engineers. There are lots of different engineering jobs that you can apply for. Derrick tells me all the time that nursing is a good field, but engineering is awesome.

Contribution to the World

My goal is to share the gospel. I want to teach the truth about God and the importance of obeying his command. I want to bring everybody to Jesus Christ so that they can have the opportunity to be saved and joined to the church family.

Jordan

About Me

Good day to everyone. My name is Jordan, I’m 16 and at this present time in my life I define my self as an honest though respected person. I live my life on drive and determination. When am involved in a activity I don’t enjoy so much fixing things, more so figuring them seem to be my gift, I thrive on that. So you might categorize me more of a thinker then hands on kind of person. But through any thing I’m pursuing no matter the issue or circumstances I push for success. Keeping focus, use perseverance as a strong powerful force, and leaving failure as unlikely conclusion, then a result of  my ability not to resume.

My KCSTI Experience

From my first day of KCSTI session I felt this vive, a type of awareness that told me that this program is something to take serious. The first week was spent getting to know each other mostly.  Which is usually one of the hardest trying to do, but for some reason that change and it became one of the easiest things to do. After 4 weeks I still cant explain why, to guess, I will blame it on the way I was treated by not only the staff but peers around me, they are all good people in my eyes.

During these 4 weeks I have had wonderful time exploring the field of transportation and engineering. Getting the chance to tour places. Giving us the opportunity to learn not only about the job, but a little history of the job, and some experience of some the people who work there. My favorite tour many was the metro bus station. Me being a regular bus rider I was able to receive reasonable amount of needed information. We also got the chance to know it feel to actually drive a bus with their simulators.

Career Choice

The career I chosen is broadcasting technology. I always love to how much technology haves advanced overtime in just my lifetime. Especially T.V. land, they way it haves changed in the way it watched and the quality it continue to release. I would like to be able to make that magic, by starting my own independent movie production company. With a degree in broadcasting/communication and with some experience from a internship at a news station

I liked it when the people from the station let us play with their Bus simulators I thought that was fun. I also liked it when Mr. Rowlands showed us the inside of his helicopter and how he broadcast from the back seats of his helicopter.

Week two we went to Iron woods and climbed on these towers that were about 100ft tall and built forts out of plastic tubes and tied balloons to them.

We had a sergeant come and talk to us about cars safety and how important it is to have seat belt on every time you are in a car driving and making sure that you keep your eyes on the road at all times.

We had two construction worker who work for the Army come and show how they make concrete roads using: rocks , cement, water, and sand
