KCSTI 2008 STUDENT PROFILES

About Me
Hello my name is Aaron. I’m sixteen years old and I currently attend Don Bosco charter high school. What I like to do? I really love playing sports. I’m very energetic , fun to be around, and I pretty much like to be laid back low key.
My KCSTI Experience
What I enjoyed and experienced in the Kansas city summer transportation institute was the guest speaker Sergeant Meyers, I really believe he touched a lot of us in the K.C.S.T.I. program with all of the realistic films he showed us where people didn’t think before they got behind the wheel of a motor vehicle and how important is to drive safely and not under intoxication not only for you but for the pedestrians also. Next I really enjoyed the trip to the H.N.T.B that talked and discussed with us the new light rail train that should be coming soon here in Kansas City which I really believe would be a great benefit to a lot of people in the Kansas City area especially while these gas prices done got outrageous.
I also enjoyed the trip to the down town airport where we actually got a chance to get on an actual airplane and see what it is really like to be on an airplane, for those of us that never actually got a chance to experience being on an actual airplane we also had the chance to see and talk to actual pilots and discuss what they go through every day driving an airplane for several hours.
I loved the trip to the tragedy prevention center where we got a chance to experience what actually could and is most likely to happen when a person is driving while under intoxication, which just really made me think more about making more and better constructive decisions in life.
Last but not least I really, really enjoyed the tour around the whole U.M.K.C campus which was very exciting and just enhance/increased my decision and thoughts about really going to college and actually living on campus. That’s what I really enjoyed and experience in the K.C.S.T.I program.
Career
Choice
What is my career choice? I would really love to be a lawyer. I would love to be a lawyer because I always thought as a teenager by me going through the family court system that a lawyer is a person that can give second chances and that’s something that I always believed in because I believe that everyone makes mistakes so, that’s why I would love to be a lawyer.
Contribution to the World
To be able to give people second chances.

About Me
Hi my name is Alfonzo I’m 15 years old and I attend Hickman Mills High
School. I like to play lots of sports and activities like basketball and
baseball, etc.
I’m
the type of person who hates to be around the house all day, I have to get
out and have fun just hanging out with my friends.
My KCSTI
Experience
I have really enjoyed myself at STI, it is a fun and very exciting
experience. At first I thought I would be some stupid boring camp my mom
signed me up for, but it turned out to be one of the best experiences I have
ever had. My favorite trip was when we went to ironwood challenge course, we
got to climb a 50 foot log tower, I was really scared when I was going up
but it was ok I had so much fun so I went up twice!
I really have come to enjoy
the friends I have come to know when this program is over I will miss them
but you will be surprised how close you can grow to people in one month! I
like the speakers but they were not my favorite.
Career
Choice
I plan on going to college to UMKC but at this time I’m not sure. I want to be a mechanical engineer when I get older.
Contribution to the World
I plan on giving little by
little to the poor, and the boys and girls club.
About Me
Hello, my name is Ben and I am 14 years old. I will be
going to Truman High School in the fall of 2008. I like to play baseball in
the summer and I like to play Xbox 360 with my best friend Matt. I also go
to
My KCSTI Experience
The staff is nice and makes this institute a fun place to come for 5 weeks. I liked the Ironwoods Challenge Course because I got to climb to the top of the 50 foot course 4 times. I also really enjoyed the Tragedy prevention field trip because I did really well at driving. I also liked wheelchair basketball because I have always wanted to try wheelchair basketball and it was really fun. We also went to MODOT and made our own street signs with our names on them, which were fun to make.
Career Choice
I would like to be a pilot someday. I plan to go to
college. We went on a tour of the UMKC campus and I really liked it. If I
can’t be a pilot I would like to be a missionary to tell people about Jesus.
Contribution to the
World
I would like to be a willing servant to God by telling
people about Jesus Christ. To me that is the most important thing that I can
ever do, for the world.

About Me
My name is Da’Vina and I am
a junior in Spirit of Truth Academy.
My favorite thing to do is create; create art, poems, songs, and etc.
I love to play sports even though I am more of the girly girl.
I love to hang out with my friends and family.
If you wanted to describe me in one word, trust me, you would not be
able to! I like to have fun but
I like to keep fun in perspective.
I would rather learn than to have fun; weird, I know.
On the outside, I look well-preserved and laid back; but once you get
to know me, you see that I am the most fun person you ever hope to meet, but
I will also help keep you on the straight and the narrow.
My KCSTI
Experience
What I liked about the
program are the great people that I met.
Before the second week had even begun I was communicating with
everyone in the program like I had known them forever.
The trips were always very informative and enjoyable.
All of the speakers gave us time to ask questions and answered them
to the best of their ability.
The activities encouraged group work and helped us to get to know each other
better. All of the staff was
very helpful and let us know that we could talk to them if we needed to.
I really enjoyed myself and felt very comfortable and at home
immediately. All of the field
trips were highly educational and enjoyable.
I especially liked the trip to the airports; before then I had never
been in an airplane before! As
the program began to come to a close, I began to feel very sad; I did not
want to leave all of the new friends that I had acquired.
But I feel very confident that most of the friends I have met will
continue to stay in contact because of the way that we connected on the
first day that we met. I envy
the new people that will be here next year; if I could come here next year I
would. If you would like to
learn more about the field of transportation, meet some of the coolest
teenagers in the world, and brighten your outlook on the real life of living
on a college campus; this is by far the best summer program that I have
attended in all of the years of my appreciated life.
Career
Choice
Before I came to this program, I had high hopes of being a successful fashion designer and opening my own fashion business. Now I am leaning more towards civil engineering in the field of transportation. I also would like to be a gospel singer and donate money to children in foreign places that do not have all of the little things that we people in America have and take for granted. So for the most part, when I “grow up” I just want to be a person that everyone remembers as someone who offered everything she had to offer to the well- being of those around her. One day, I want to change the world.
Contribution to the World
I want to leave a legacy.

I also enjoyed the conservation center and walking the trails with my friends. I like spending time with new people and making new friends.

My KCSTI Experience
I have really enjoyed being in this program. I have made a lot of new friends. My favorite part about this program is the having the chance of going to all the different types of transportation and getting to meet the people who have made it possible for us to attend this school.
The guest speakers and the activities are what make this so interesting and fun to attend. Every time there was a speaker I learned more and more. My favorites were making the maglev cars and making the rockets. I am looking forward to attending the reunion. Because I will be able to show how much this has helped me.
Career
Choice
My career choice is to be an aeronautical test pilot. I have always had an interest in flying. I plan on attending a flight school college but if that fails I plan on attending KU or UMKC working on my art degree.

I love to go church and read my bible. I attend Summit Woods Baptist Church in Lees Summit with my family and friends. My best friend is Ben and we try to hang out together as often as possible.
My KCSTI Experience
Thanks so much to the staff at KCSTI for having a great camp with cool speakers and stuff to do. I met some new friends and my best friend Ben was there, too. I really enjoyed the air traffic control center, driving simulation and Iron Woods Challenge. The air traffic control center was in Olathe, Kansas, and is where they help with all the planes in their air space. The driving simulation was a private place in Grandview, Missouri, where it assists individuals to learn to drive. It is also a place they send people following a DUI/DWI to understand what drunk driving is really like. I, especially, liked this place, because they are aiming for such a good cause. Finally, there was the Iron Woods Challenge where we were outside all day doing a multitude of activities. I really enjoyed this, because of the rope climb and all the challenges our group had to work through. Plus, the staff there really cared about me, my safety and experience. But, overall, all of the field trips were a total blast! Even our bus driver was awesome to get to know!
I also enjoyed the lessons for life that each of us learned from one another and ourselves. I am proud of the progress we made as a group and the impact it will continue to have on all of us. I believe the experience allowed for me to make many important connections for the future. It also made me think much deeper about college and what I would like to spend my life doing.
Career
Choice
I would like to go to UMKC and someday be a Chemical Engineer. With my degree I would like to help children with diseases. I would not only like to get my bachelors degree, but my Ph.D. as well! I hope to help many children within my life.

I would like to share with people that it is important to not only have faith in yourself, but your country! But, the most important thing I would like to share with the world is my relationship with Jesus! It is very important to me to spread the love and word of Jesus. In my spare time I would like to experience missionaries and reach out to those who have, yet to meet Jesus.

The Kansas City Summer Transportation Institute isn’t
like summer school at all. You get to interact with a lot of great people,
there’s tons more field trips, and it’s not boring. The Institute’s purpose
is to help, encourage, and educate high school students about their choice
of career. The food at the cafeteria was actually really good. There’s no

included.

I enjoyed the summer program very much because it informed me about the different career opportunities in transportation. My favorite trip was the Ironwoods challenge course. There we got to climb a 50 foot structure which got real scary half-way up.
Many of the

get involved in the discussions. Of all so far I must say that my favorite
speaker was Mrs. Nichole, don’t ask me why!!!!!!!!
All of the staff were pretty cool
